Ten Minute Challenge
I had to get ready for a concert really fast, and it just so happened that I got all of my makeup on in under ten minutes!

This is one of my recent attempts at blending:
As you can see the skills are not quite there yet :( If only I lived with a makeup artist.

I've been meaning to do this.... [new member]
An intro post, with pictures to follow (but of course, daaahling).... A bit about me
I live in Okinawa, Japan. I'm a wife, and a mum. I'm from California, land of sunshine and traffic :) (and boy do I ever miss it). I'm 22 years old, etc. My daughter makes me feel older than I am sometimes, though :P. She is two and likes to help me put on makeup - so she has her own set of brushes/sponge applicators that I don't use . She is pretty good with that blush brush, though. Hmmmm. Future girly-girl? Hehe. Um, what else... I'm starting college for the first time ever, in a few weeks, so I'm a bit nervous about that. That's really all. If you want to know more, feel free to ask, I'm pretty much an open book. My makeup background:
I don't have much of a background. Since I was a kid, I loved makeup. I wasn't allowed to wear it until high school. Back then I didn't know about crazy colours - I only thought the crazy lady that worked at the convenience store wore bright blue and bright pink, not regular people. I began to see more and more interesting colour combinations, particularly BRIGHT ones, and I'd ask these ladies where they bought their makeup. MAC! Ahh, a company I had heard of, never seen. After high school, I went straight into working in an office so I wore little makeup. After that, I worked in a bakery - no need for makeup, there's plenty of powder for everyone's face in a bakery (it's a joke... lol). I eventually quit that which gave me more time to actually wear makeup (and being that I was pregnant at the time, I wanted to feel more pretty). I did start wearing more makeup. A few weeks after I gave birth to my daughter, we were visitng my in-laws, and we were walking around the mall. I went in Macy's finally, just to see what all the damn fuss was about MAC.
I have been a
MAC addict ever since. I only buy their eyeshadows and eyeliner, but that's about it. We don't have a MAC store readily available here - so I order most items off ebay or I'll ask my fellow mac-addicts to get some stuff for me and mail it to me! hehe.
My skincare routine:
In the morning, I wash with Cetaphil face bar soap. I use under-eye serum (testing different ones out right now - I know I'm young but the damn lines just started popping up suddenly), and Mary Kay Timewise moisturizer. I really like that combination. In the evening I do basically the same, except I use Olay Witch Hazel Toner. Love it <3Favourite skincare/makeup products
For skincare, I love Oil of Olay or Cetaphil. Oil of Olay because their toners aren't harsh, and hey, they've kept my mom fairly wrinkle free for her age, so they must be doing something right. Favorites for makeup - I love Revlon's creme compact "New Complexion". It doesn't make me break out like the 104189421 other products I've tried :) and has wonderful coverage!
Onto what you want to see, the ( pictures!Collapse )
yay! I am quite glad to be here, among adults, who probably suffer the same bewildering adult things that happen. Like lines around your eyes just appearing one day... or in my oh-so-sad husband's case, he had one gray hair and asked me to pluck it. Now about ten more gray hairs came to its funeral (and he's only 23). heh. Current Mood: silly

i got the blues
so i intended to just a blue look, because it's a new thang for me, and i felt like playing with some new shadows. unfortunately, i ended up with massive amounts of darker shades than intended all over my lid, so it got messy. rather than taking it off after using just two colors, oh no, i just kept adding, haha... it's some ridiculous layering of shadows, i'm surprised i can even lift my lids. anyway, the blue wasn't working, and the nude-ish color i was using to try and neutralize my upper lid wasn't, either. at that point, i had this stroke of genius - i loved the looks of MAC's blue-brown, why didn't i try to mimic it with this so-far disaster? suuuure! so i got out a couple of browns and this is what i ended up with. i'm not tragically disappointed, but i'd like to try it again on purpose, haha...
so my question to go with this is: what do you do when you've already put some time, effort, and product into a makeup job and it's not working? do you experiment and hope it works? do you have a tried and true "fixer-upper" trick? do you scrap it and start fresh?( coupla few moreCollapse )

i get paid tomorrow
after bills, i should have enough to experiment with some basic stuff.
*takes a big breath*
gosh, do you guys really think i can do it?
seriously! the most make up i have ever worn
was some stage makeup for a christmas musical
i want to try the sampler kit from barescentuals.
what do you think? is that a good place to start?
will it be overkill? Current Mood: anxious

Olay! *brandishing red cape*
i just recently picked up Olay's daily regenerating cleanser from the regenerist line, and i'm pretty happy with it. the only complaint i have is the scent, which *all* oil of olay products seem to have, and i can't put my finger on it, except it's reminiscent of mothballs, maybe in the same way the smell of old spice always reminds me of my grandfather, ya know? at any rate, my face always feels really smooth and clean after using it; it's an oxygenating exfoliant that feels like lotion and doesn't really lather, it's more of a "smooth it on and rub it in" sort of thing. just a heads up for those who may be on a search for new facial products :)
hope you're all well! sorry i haven't done the 10-minute challenge; i've essentially been doing brows, mascara, powder and lip gloss/lipstick for a while, since i can't seem to get my damned ass out the door on time EVER. i did get a present yesterday (well, several of them because i'm a spoiled girl, i know this about myself); my butch went to the MAC counter ALL BY HERSELF and picked up a lip brush and tinted lip conditioner in Virtuous Violet. it's a great tint on its own, and i'm eager to try it under some colors that need a little "oomph". yay, butches who aren't afraid to makeup shop for their girls!

Bare Escentuals. Someone talk me into or out of it.
I am fixin' to go to ULTA and they sell it.
Is it any good? Worth the price?

Challenge: Ten-Minute Speed Challenge
I can't believe I did it. Seriously. When I put my makeup on this afternoon, it wasn't for this challenge -- it was for a dance competition. I wasn't even thinking about how fast I was doing it. Mostly I was pissed off that the choreographer claimed she was a makeup expert, so I let her use MY makeup kit on everyone. Not only did she not have the FIRST CLUE about putting on makeup (she insisted that everyone put on mascara before she did their eyeshadow, and then put everyone's eyeliner on first,) she MIXED UP MY PRECIOUS MAC COLOURS. I had to take a tissue to one of my pans of pink because she got Beauty Marked all over it. *cries*
After I saw the damage she did to the rest of the girls (what I mentioned above wasn't even the worst of it,) I insisted on doing my own makeup. I was so mad that I just zipped right through it -- and realized after I slapped my loose powder on that I'd actually finished in well under ten minutes.
Its not the prettiest makeup ever, but it beats the challenge!( Here 'tis.Collapse )
Makeup Used (all MAC unless otherwise specified):
NC 15 Studio Fix Fluid
Blushbaby powder blush
Seedy Pearl e/s
Beauty Marked e/s
Carbon e/s (as liner)
Viva Glam V l/g
Eyebrow powder in Browning
Loose Powder in NW5
Maybelline Great Last in Blackest Black
Moral of the day: NEVER let ANYONE touch your makeup.
What is your favorite lipstick?

My question is, do any of ya'll have any good tips for keeping cream eyeshadow from creasing? My eyelids are kinda deepset with lots of foldy skin; so, the stuff creases like a bitch. I mention the eyelid thing, because my girlfriend's have less of the foldy skin (it's a technical term), and cream eyeshadow doesn't do it as bad on hers. I had on this beautiful sparkly black eyeshadow from Rimmel tonight for The Vagina Monologues, but it just got all creasy and blah.
Do I sound like a complete moron here, or am I making sense? Current Mood: annoyed

hey everyone :) i wanted to let you know that i was gifted with *two* urban decay eyeshadow transformers today (not sure if that's the actual product name but damned if i'm gonna get my tired ass up to go look) and i'll hopefully get a chance to play with them a little tomorrow and then over our v-day/anniverdary weekend in Napa Valley. next on the agenda - new specs! i got my new glasses and am hella excited about them, and thought i'd ask, since i haven't worn glasses regularly in several years - does wearing them affect how/when you do your makeup? i know that seems silly, but a) my glasses are colored acetate (purple with an aqua stripe and chartreuse inner temples) and b) they're kinda little, like reading glasses, and they cut my eye right around the upper lash line. thoughts?( on to the bespectacled fabulosity...Collapse )

Totally off topic....but just HAD to tell you!
I am so loving this place. Everyone here so far has been so very kind! I mean others place I am on are kind, but here there is a warmth. Do I sound totally stupid or what?
Anywhos ... I just want to thank the mod for creating an atmosphere for the more "mature" *cough* (I am still wondering when I will grow up) people. There is just something nice about this place. I can't think of the perfect word but .... it will come to me.
THANK YOU! =D
Challenge: The Ten Minute Speed Challenge
Here it is, kids, the next challenge! The Ten Minute Speed Challenge!
How fast can you do your makeup? Pretend you just rolled out of bed after slapping the snooze button three times. You have ten minutes to slap something on your face and get out the door -- can you pull it off?
♥ You have exactly ten minutes
to put on the following: powder or foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, lipstick, mascara. You can use more, but you cannot use less.
♥ Record the length of time it took you to put everything on. That way we'll know who's got the fastest hands in the
♥ Um, that's it.
Obviously you're on the honor system in terms of reporting time. If you can manage to get a picture of a clock, go for it, but its not required (as I don't have one.)
Ready? *starts stopwatch* GO!
